Singer PankajKumar from Apex, North Carolina

Pankaj Kumar works as an IT manager. Fascination towards music and singing has been very natural from within since early childhood.

He sings various songs ranging from hip-hop, pop, trans musical, folk, funky, melody, sufi, romantic to Ghazal. He has sung along side various legendary singers such as Alka Yagnik, Asha Bhosle, Shreya Ghoshal, Javed Ali and Sadhna Sargam.

He continues to dub various solos and duets with contemporary singers such as Palak Muchchal of Ashiqui 2 fame, Aishwarya Majumdar of Voice of India Fame, Ritu Pathak of Jalebi Bai fame, Khusbu Jain, an upcoming talented singer. Pankaj Kumar is proving to be one of the versatile singers of all times. His many songs have been dubbed and are in the release pipelines. A movie also is in pipeline. Dil ye Deewana is his first official music video as well, though 'Mere Humsafar', a melody Ghazal is already released on worldwide music platforms. He is still a student of Hindustani Classical Music and would like to remain so.

What genre of music can one associate you with?

Bollywood, Pop, Hip Hop, Funky, Trans, Rock, Semi Classical, Classical all genres.

How did you get interested in singing and how did it start?

Since childhood attraction towards music made me imitate all singers inadvertently. I started singing (but not publicly) by listening to radio at early stage. I wanted to study Arts and music and wanted to compete at national level. None of these actually happened. I studied computer science and started as computer programmer at HCL Infosystems, Noida. Since then I worked in various countries. Life had been busy at work and have taken a month leave from work at a stretch only two or three times so far. I am currently working in RTP.

When did you realize you wanted to do this professionally in the US?

Some friends suggested to take part in singing events. I did participated in few karaoke events and soon realized that I can easily create good new melodious original songs which I like.

How easy was it getting people involved with you? some interesting stories about getting people on board?

I have been doing cover songs of popular songs initially, so it was not so difficult to get involvement from people who are in music industry.

Biggest challenges you face as a singer today in the US?

Earning a fan is tough because most people migrated to the US for work on the basis of their specialization in IT, Medical or Scientific expertise and are busy in their day-to-day life.

What makes you special from the others?

I can sing various genres of songs in soft music category at ease and I am classically trained. My voice is different. I would like to keep my belief that learning never ends.

Follow the heart and use the brain to achieve it.
